Non-Fiction Genres: Coffee Table Books

Calling all non-fiction leisure readers!  Want to find new reads but not sure what to ask for? Check this non-fiction genre map out for new ways to think about non-fiction.

It may seem odd to include “Coffee Table Books” as a genre, but these books, unlike most others, derive their appeal nearly exclusively from their visual elements.  There are pictorial works in all non-fiction areas, and readers of this genre will likely be drawn to it by the subject of the work.  However, some readers do seek these books out because they enjoy the visual aspects of the work, and may cross over from other visual-leaning sub-genres like craft books, cook books, travel books, books about collectibles/antiques, etc.  These works tend to be browsable rather than something you have to sit and read cover to cover in order.
